My wife and I have always enjoyed patriotic holidays. I am a veteran from the Vietnam years and we celebrate the 4th of July every year. We have a flagpole in the front yard that flies 24-7 and is lit at night.

To blog one of our July 4ths, I selected the party from 2011 as we had an extra vintage car show up that year. I decided to create this blog to highlight the cars mostly.

At the flagpole, even the flowers are red, white and blue.

We had our 4th of July get together on July 2nd back in 2011. My wife and I both worked on the 4th that year so we decided to have it on Saturday. It rained in the morning but by 3:00 pm it was nice and dry. There was plenty of food and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

The weather was very mild that year. It was around 80 degrees but the humidity was low and comfortable. Everyone ate and got fat. We got to visit with a lot of family and friends. The grandkids played badminton.

There was plenty of parking, I rifled through everyone's cars and none of them had anything worth taking. What a bunch of cheapos.

The featured attraction this year was Sammy's 1931 Ford Model A 2-door sedan.

He bought this car in 1959 and stored it away. (Sammy is well over 80).

He just recently began working on it.

The car runs perfectly. It still has it's original 4-cylinder flathead engine.

I had Sammy park the Ford next to my 1930 Chevy sedan.

The cars made a nice display out by the road for the holiday.

My son-in-law looks over the Model A.

At least my Chevy had someone to visit with all day for a change.

Having the cars out there was like celebrating America with two American top car manufacturers, Ford and Chevrolet.

Everyone had a good time that day. There was a lot of food, snacks and drinks. We had music and games for the kids and it was a lot of fun.

This year, 2021, we had a much smaller gathering. Just our kids and grandkids. I watched my granddaughters play cornhole.

LAter on, I started a fire in the firepit.

The dog played her own game...waiting for tidbits of food to hit the ground.

The 4th of July is probably just about everyone's favorite patriotic holiday if your an American. But when celebrating, remember how we got here. The 4th isn't just about cookouts, banners and parades, it's about decorating the graves of past veterans all the way back to the revolution. It's also about the War of Independence and our pioneers that fought and worked to make the United States what it is. When I see flag burners and listen to democrats call America racist and other names, I realize just how ignorant many people are. It's a shame. We see how the middle eastern people are being treaded now by the Taliban and there are some that think they have it so hard here in America. I just simply do not understand why they can't wake up. Why so much hate and anger? Anyway, when you celebrate the 4th of July, enjoy the food, the fireworks, parades and gatherings. But also take a moment to remember what the 4th is REALLY about.
